State Road Rules

 Responsibilities

Your individual actions on the road are representative of all of us. Please ride with respect.

Let me just start by saying that if you want politically correct, SCA isn't it. We're no tree hugging tyre spiking extremists, but we're no polished diplomats either.

SCA is as aware as anyone that it's not our behaviour as cyclists that has created the divide, but we do all see cyclists who choose to do the wrong thing consistantly. Yes, so do drivers, but why shouldn't we be making every effort to clean up our own image?

The point we would like to make is that if you ride with habitual law breakers, you have a responsibility to tell them it looks bad for them and you. Why? Because it does. Let's not delude each other and pretend everythings all hunky dorey on this side of the gate just because we run the lesser risk of killing someone on the road.

How many here would argue that the large minority of drivers who think we all ride above the rules, base their stereo-typical view on the one to two cyclists they see doing the wrong thing?  We don't think our view is rigid, it is simply the way such behaviour is viewed in simplistic terms by the general public.

I'm sure that 99% of you ride responsibly, and many of you share similar views towards those who ride with a 'couldn't care less' attitude. The fact that we've decided to publicly air the same view here doesn't suddenly change it's context or the same basic reasoning behind it. It also doesn't mean that our views are aligned with those of the motoring public.

I personally also drive cars, trucks and vans and I'd quite happily tell many drivers what I think of their antics. It doesn't make me anti motorist. SCA is not trying to take sides, because that won't help anyone.

We would love to know that everyone who has visited this site can act as ambassadors for cycling, every time you ride.

Crank DNA

We love a good T Shirt and we love the gear at Crank DNA, the brain child of Simon Jones at Ride Industries. This is seriously some of the 'funnest' stuff you can find and it's local. We encourage you to check out their site. You'll love it.

"Crank DNA proudly supports Safe Cycling Australia in it's endeavours to promote a safer cycling environment and we will be donating a percentage of the profits from a selected range of garments to SCA"
